How the Ember Protection Platypus® Sprinkler Works
The Platypus Wildfire Sprinkler System offers an affordable and simple to install water based fire protection system designed and made in Australia. The Platypus Wildfire Sprinkler System was inspired by the need for an affordable and simple to install sprinkler system that provides protection to homes, commercial and public assets from ember attack in the event of a wildfire. Sprinkler heads are typically mounted along the fascia line and or ridgeline of the building. Fascia line sprinklers are mounted to ensure water is sprayed onto the roof to keep gutters wet and create a curtain effect around the building. This means any embers are dampened and radiant heat reduced by water sprayed from sprinklers. The effect is similar to a fireman approaching a fire. The Platypus Sprinkler System can be installed by an approved installer.
The Platypus Sprinkler can be installed during construction of new homes and buildings so that the pipework can be concealed or in the case of existing dwellings and buildings, easily retrofitted with exposed pipework.
How the Ember Protection Platypus® Sprinkler Works
The Platypus Controller can be autonomous and remote controlled via SMS message. The Platypus Controller measures ambient air temperature to automatically activate compatible equipment that supplies water to the sprinkler system. The temperature that activates the system is set by the user up to a maximum of 140°F. When the ambient air temperature rises above the set point, the system becomes active. The system will run for an amount of time which is set by the user up to a maximum of 60 minutes. After the run time has expired, the system pauses for an amount of time, also set by the user, up to a maximum of 60 minutes. The ambient air temperature is measured again, if it is still above the set point the controller will run the system again. This cycle is repeated until the ambient air temperature falls 35°F to 40°F below the set point. During these cycles the controller will send SMS information* to the stored numbers advising the status of the system. The EVAC Button feature allows the user to turn the system on to run for cycle times up to 60 minutes when leaving the property, after the set time has expired the controller will go back into Auto Mode.
The Platypus Controller can also be activated and reviewed via SMS text. There will be a SIM card installed by the installer and have a direct phone number. There can be up to 5 users that have access to the controller. With the access each user will have a list of key words in which you can text the controller and get a response to check status of the battery, temperature setting, current temperature, . The controller can also be turned on and turned off by texting the controller.
